Bluetooth and USB-enabled Device For Tracking Glucose Levels Austin, TX — February 20, 2018 — Clarity Ventures announced today that it has launched a HIPAA compliant application for ACON Laboratories. Clarity Ventures and ACON partnered to create an integrated Bluetooth phone and tablet application that allows a glucose meter — as well as future medical devices — to transmit data in a HIPAA compliant way to personal devices. “The data on a patient’s wearable device is captured and then transmitted to their personal mobile device at their discretion, whether manually or on an automated sync,” said Ron Halversen, VP Sales and Marketing. “This data is then transferred from their mobile devices to a portal shared with their doctor. They also have the ability to share this data with family members and friends who are able to encourage the individual toward their glucose goals.” The entire process is HIPAA compliant, from the transmission of data into the patient’s personal smartphone or tablet all the way through the portal system. It also offers a robust capability for reporting, goal setting, management, and patient review that is available for doctors and health specialists. All of this is logged to meet HIPAA logging requirements. “The entire infrastructure that the Clarity team built used a native multi-operating-system-compatible mobile and tablet application framework called Xamarin,” said Chris Reddick, President and CEO. “This allowed us to develop a single set of code that natively compiles for Android, iOS, and other mobile operating systems without having to rewrite or maintain multiple sets of code.” The web application itself is publicly available and operates using Azure's HIPAA compliant infrastructure as a service and takes advantage of transparent data encryption. The Microsoft Azure Security Center ensures encryption at rest, and all data is transferred over SSL. The application is a very robust offering that allows ACON to compete in a space where mobile and tablet capabilities have become the standard. “The job with ACON didn’t stop once the security and Bluetooth capabilities were addressed,” continues Reddick. “We continued to work with the ACON team to build physical USB connectivity for remote locations in developing countries, as well as organizations that are on-site during major disasters. The application is now able to function without Bluetooth-enabled devices, relying instead on ubiquitous USB connectivity to get the data from the devices to the medical portal.” Clarity coordinated with and worked closely with the glucose meter manufacturing team, and it continues to offer support and training for Acon’s internal team.
