Custom eCommerce Solutions Get the Job Done

We’ve said it many times before, but it bears repeating: Clarity takes the difficult jobs that other developers pass up. Other developers might refuse an eCommerce development project because it’s impossible on their platform, or they just don’t want to put in the time to make the final product everything it needs to be. Since Clarity has built its own base platform, we have access to the full source code and can leverage that source code to make whatever changes are needed for any project. We can customize the UI and the workflows to match exactly what the client's business model would optimally call for.

At Clarity, we love a challenge. In our 15 years as eCommerce developers, we’ve worked with hundreds of clients to help them get exactly what they’re looking for, whether it’s a HIPAA compliant website or a complete auction platform that has millions of pieces of information about the products. If we know it can be done, chances are we’ll take the project even if at first it seems impossible. We’re here to integrate your programs, build out what you need, and improve the workflow for your business.

Let’s Make It Happen

If you already know that Clarity is a company you’d like to talk to, schedule a demo today. If you’d like, we can show you all of the projects listed below.

We’ve collected a few unique examples from our past to give you an idea of the out-of-the-ordinary projects we’ve provided B2B eCommerce solutions for. It’s unlikely that you would need a project exactly like any of the ones below, but these examples can give you a good idea of the complex projects that Clarity happily takes on.

Thinking beyond a standard eCommerce catalog

3D Modeler

One of our clients was a 3D imagery business that printed holographic images for their clients. A primary challenge was that they needed multi-gigabyte-size files that clients had to upload in order to see what the scope of their product was and find out what options they had when working with that image.

There's a standard schema for these files with different file types, so these large files would need to be uploaded and then parsed in order for the end-user to understand the options they would be able to purchase. Because of the fierce competition in the holographic image market, our client needed to have an edge. But the files were too large and had to be transferred manually, which meant that the current method wasn’t feasible for them to offer on the market. They needed eCommerce development to solve a tough problem.

Clarity’s solution was to collaborate with their team to come up with a method where they could standardize, process chunk uploads, and parse the header portion of these large files immediately, and this would provide the end-user with media feedback letting them know what product types they can purchase.

Part of the solution was to parse some of the data immediately and then provide them with options that they could choose from. This became part of the product detail pages by allowing a user to interact with the page and their data, then go ahead and have updates happen on the product detail page to show what their options would be to purchase. It worked much the same way as a business-specific product selection wizard

Building apps for specialized ecommerce business models

Surgery Applications

Believe it or not, not all modules created with custom eCommerce development end up being used to sell something. One of the best parts about having access to the source code — and since it’s our platform, we do — is that we can use a module as the beginning of a project and then alter it as necessary for the client’s needs. It’s the same eCommerce framework with a specialized module attached.

One of our favorite examples of this is when we worked with a medical group to assist in surgeries. This might sound strange at first; no one is buying anything during surgery, of course! The hospital’s problem is that they were losing millions of dollars because they weren’t keeping track of everything that was going into a patient’s body and what was coming out. In some cases, it could be some small tool worth thousands of dollars, but in most cases, it was a piece of gauze or a clamp. It really doesn’t matter what it was, because in far too many cases the patient would experience pain or get an infection. This not only forced the hospital to re-do a multi-thousand-dollar surgery for free, but it opened them up to millions of dollars in lawsuits. It also damaged their reputation in the community.

How did we work with them to solve the problem? Turn the cart into a checklist and utilize the eCommerce product catalog as the inventory. Items required for the surgery were selected from an app we created. Because the rest of the site held thousands of medical items on the product details page — including manufacturer, size, shape, color, and anything else need to identify the piece — the items could be pre-loaded and alternates could be chosen based on the hospital’s inventory. Incompatibilities between certain items could also be flagged.

During the surgery, a medical professional was tasked with using the app in the operating room, adding the item to the “cart” as the surgeons called them out. The items were then removed from the “cart” as they came out of the patient. At the end of the surgery, the only items left were the ones that were supposed to stay, such as stents, bone supports, pacemakers, etc.

Keeping better track of medical supplies with this type of headless eCommerce option obviously reduced the number of times a doctor would leave something behind. It also served as an excellent way to document the process, so if a patient complained of pain, lost items could be ruled out as a possibility.

An eCommerce business solution to boost sales

Exploded Views

Exploded views are another example of a specialized module that we customize often. For instance, we can provide a mapped image that shows the break-out of the parts that comprise that larger vehicle, and we can help create a module that helps them find exactly what they need for their make, model, and year. If a customer pulls out the old part but the ID number has worn away, exploded views can give them a visual way of verifying the part they seek. An exploded view of an item (whether dynamic or static) can make a customer less likely to call customer service. This makes them happier and saves our client time and resources.

Another common eCommerce solution we provide is when we work with clients who have inventory that is comprised of other inventory. A seller might have a motor that is assembled and ready to be sold. (For the sake of simplicity, let’s say that there are only three parts in this motor: the valves, the valve cover, and the gearbox.) If the gearboxes as an individual SKU is out of stock, clients may want to be able to offer to break the kit and disassemble the motor. After all, individual parts are often more expensive than a complete item, so it might make financial sense to break the kit.

Having the item in stock also makes customers happy. If a customer needs the motor for their assembly line to get back up and running, our client becomes the hero simply because they have a particular part taken from a kit.
