Google Analytcs, Pages Views, & How Often You Should Check Them
What are Page Views and Why They are Important?
A high number of page views isn’t an indication of higher user engagement or the prospective revenue from the
app or site, but it doesn’t mean page view isn’t important. Working with this metric is much more valuable than
you can fathom.
According to the Google Analytics help center, a page view is that instance when a page is loading in the
browser. Every time someone opens a page, it is taken as a view. The user might load the page and leave 20 times
in a browsing session. However, every time the site crawler will take it as a page view. Even when a user is
refreshing or reloading the page, it counts as a view.
However, this doesn’t tell much about the visitor’s behavior. This is the reason Google Analytics also offers
unique pageviews. It shows the total number of page views that a user generates in one session. In simple words,
every page the user is opening in a session is counted as one. This is even when they are visiting or loading
the page multiple times.
Checking daily highs and lows isn’t sufficient when it comes to deciding your business achievements. Instead,
your ability to sustain higher views and steady growth decides your failure and your success.
So, you should monitor page views weekly or monthly. When you do this, it will help in understanding the
activity level on the site in the context of time. As you look at the bigger picture, you can understand the
variations and trends over time. This is good strategic planning.
